B.W.O.

We must therefore now, I fear, send a copy of Enclosure to this letter, & tell him with ref. to 17687/92 that the surrender of this strip must be dealt with under the particulars of 30th Dec. Last, & its value recorded to be utilized towards the cost of the Barracks in accordance with despt on 22177/94, and inform W.O.

It is so small a matter that it is hardly worth embarking upon a contentious correspondence.

15 February 1893

With reference to your letters of 24th January 1893 and 14th December 1892 on the subject of the plot of land near Belcher's Battery asked for by the Colonial Government for forming a right of way near Queen's Road; I am directed by the Secretary of State for War to acquaint you for the information of the Marquess of Ripon that instructions were forwarded to the General Commanding at Hong Kong on the 8th June last. A copy of the instructions is enclosed.

Pending the settlement of the question of the Hongkong lands generally, it was thought that the instructions issued would meet the requirements of the Colony.

I have the honour to be, Sir, Your obedient Servant, R. Thompson
